Ute Artist Coming To Forbes

Forbes will have two chances later in the year to enjoy the works of renowned artist Paul Blahuta, with an exhibition at the Forbes Art Gallery, and a new outdoor piece to go on display at nearby station Burrawang West.

Broken Hill artist Blahuta, whose works have graced the walls of the National Museum of Australia and Parliament House, will exhibit at the Forbes Art Gallery for two weeks from October 4, and will add a new piece to the quirky “Utes in the Paddock” project at Burrawang West on September 27.

Forbes Art Gallery Owner Scott Chamney said “Blahuta is recognized internationally for his unique outback style of art and he is one half of The Blood Brothers (the other is Howard Steer), who are represented in galleries throughout Australia and overseas.

Residents and visitors alike will have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Paul Blahuta’s works when his exhibition opens at the Forbes Art Gallery on October 4.

Mr Chamney said “Blahuta is booked from Melbourne to Paris until 2010, such is the demand for his work, so this is an exciting and unique opportunity for the community to view his still affordable works. He’s also kindly agreed to produce some works that reflect Forbes and district so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with.”

The Forbes Art Gallery, which opened in September 2006, stocks a variety of investment and fine art, contemporary and aboriginal art, sculptures, artifacts and rare antique items.

The Gallery represents three of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, Bob Marchant, Paul Margocsy and Samantha Thompson, and also stock works by Pro Hart, Leonard Long and more.

“We also exhibit work from a large number of local artists such as Wayne Mills, Sharyn Moselyn, Ralph Tickerpae (sculpture), JoAnne Southorn, Noelene Markwort (Wiradjuri), Karen Tooth and Merryn Spencer,” said Mr Chamney.

Local residents will have another opportunity to enjoy Blahuta’s work from September 27 at Burrawang West Station near Ootha. Instead of canvas, he is transforming an iconic Holden ute into a fixed piece of sculpture art.

This piece will join others which are part of “Utes in the Paddock”, Burrawang West’s quirky project which will see twelve Holden utes transformed by renowned Australian artists into a permanent exhibition showcasing the outback.

Mr Pickles said “three of the planned twelve utes are on display now and we hope to have the final ute in place by the end of this year.”

Utes for the project have been donated by local residents after learning that many of Australia’s most gifted outback artists are donating their time to create this unique tribute to life in the bush.

The Forbes Art Gallery is open 10am - 6pm on Thursday to Friday and 10am – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday at Sherriff Street, Forbes. Further information about the gallery can be found at www.forbesartgallery.com

Motorists can see the “Utes in the Paddock” 70kms west of Forbes near Ootha. Further information about the Utes in the Paddock project can be found at www.utesinthepaddock.com.au.
