Making the Move to Forbes
Making the move to Forbes in early 2008 was just like putting a puzzle together for Forbes Shire Council’s recent recruit Misty Gardner and her partner Chris Kath who manages one of Forbes’ newest businesses which also relocated from Queensland. Miss Gardner knows that the pieces of the puzzle ‘tree changers’ are looking for include employment, real estate, lifestyle, community, education, industry and transport and is anticipating that being able to share her experience first hand will be a valuable asset when she heads off to man Forbes Shire Council’s at the Country Week Expo next week. “I have experienced first hand the terrific benefits being part of this community provides. At Country Week I will be able to showcase the economic and lifestyle benefits we enjoy here in Forbes,” said Miss Gardner. Miss Gardner has moved to Forbes with her partner Chris Kath, General Manager of Superbee Honey Factory, which moved to Forbes in 2007 from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast as a result of assessment of locations around the country. Mr Kath said “several key factors were taken into consideration, including: cost of land, logistic infrastructure and access to key metropolitan markets, essential services (water, natural gas, electricity, telecommunications), availability of honey supply, abundance of local trades personnel and available labour force. These factors were weighted according to priority and in the final analysis, Forbes was one of the two best locations available to us. The final deciding factor in favour of Forbes was the extremely positive community reception to our proposed relocation, as well as the excellent support, response times and professionalism of the local council.” Miss Gardner was prompted to consider a move to Forbes when she realised that she would be able to continue her career as a marketing professional, whilst being able to enjoy a great, relaxed lifestyle. “As Manager of Tourism & Promotions, I am afforded a wonderful opportunity to encourage visitation to Forbes. This is a magnificent heritage town with lots of character; it enjoys a beautiful and unique natural environment in the Central West; and also has the fortune of a friendly, welcoming community. I was also very impressed with real estate here in Forbes. We chose to buy a home after meeting with real estate agents and having a look at what was on the market. We were both so surprised at the quality of housing we could afford here after being used to soaring city real estate prices, and I’ve been able to reduce my commute to work from 45 minutes to only two minutes,” said Miss Gardner. Miss Gardner is currently in final planning stages for Country Week, and will be heading to the Sydney Expo next week together with Manager Commercial Enterprises Kristy Hartwig. Around 10,000 people are expected to attend the Country Week Expo being held in Sydney from August 8 - 10, which is aimed at encouraging both businesses and individuals to consider relocating to regional and country areas. Mayor Rhonda Keane said “Council has invested in a prime site at Country Week, which will be resourced with quality visual displays and comprehensive information about local employment and real estate opportunities, industry, schools, health care, transport and other lifestyle benefits such as our natural environment, heritage, culture, social, sporting and special events.” The Country Week Expo will be staged at the Rosehill Racecourse Exhibition Centre from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 August, from 10am to 4pm daily.
