Saleyards to begin Construction

Last modified: October 9, 2009 - 3:21 PM

Saleyards to begin Construction Forbes Shire Council and project partner, Projects+Infrastructure (P+i), have now signed all necessary legal documents to start construction of Stage 2 of the Central West Livestock Exchange (new sheep saleyards).

Working closely with Forbes Shire Council, P+i have engaged a leading construction company and all parties to the project have signed off on the construction phase.“Financial constraints in the wake of the GFC have delayed progress on the development, however, the tenacity of Projects+Infrastructure has ensured that the various requirements to get this project into construction are now in place,” Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said.Construction will commence within the next month and is scheduled to be complete within 12 months.BACKGROUND:Having recognised the need to replace and upgrade its existing sheep saleyard complex and to consolidate saleyard operations on one site, Council has engaged Projects+Infrastructure to procure the design, construction and finance for a new state of the art facility. The project is the second stage of the Central West Livestock Exchange (CWLE).  Since being appointed as preferred proponent in April 2008, Projects+Infrastructure has worked in an open-book partnership with Council on the design and delivery. The design is expected to become an industry benchmark for animal welfare, OH&S and environmental factors.  The facility covers around three hectares, and will be capable of holding 40,000 sheep/lambs on each sale day.  Council will operate the completed facility, transferring sales from its existing Mid-State saleyards.  It is expected that the saleyards will maintain Forbes’ top three ranking in the state for NSW sheep sales, selling in excess of one million sheep a year. ABOUT:Forbes Shire Council – In 2006 Forbes Shire Council set a new standard for cattle selling facilities when it opened stage one of the CWLE. As one of the top three sheep selling centres, selling approx 1.3 million sheep each year the Forbes Saleyard Operations are an enormous contributor to the local and regional economy evidenced by Council’s significant investment to deliver stage I and now stage II.With an ongoing commitment to investment in new technology and industry best practices, Forbes is leading the way in the saleyards industry and planning for continued growth. Projects+Infrastructure – P+i is one of Australia's leading advisors in project development and finance, with expert knowledge in a range of sectors including social infrastructure, specialised property and affordable housing. We provide the common link between the project sponsor and all the elements of project delivery, including design, engineering, construction, financial modeling and financing.
